Slide 3 National Health Education Standard 8: Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health. Performance Indicator Grades 3-5: 8.5.2 Encourage friends and classmates to make healthy choices.
Slide 4 "When Bear Country's cubs learn pollution's a fact, they help grownups learn to clean up their act." Directions: Draw a line to the from the scenario on one side to the type of advocacy on the other. Scenario Advocating To help stop air pollution you could ride your bike instead of using a car. When you aren't using the sink you should turn off the water. Instead of throwing your garbage on the ground you could bring it to a garbage can.
Slide 5 Directions: You are helping your friend figure out what is recyclable and what goes in the garbage. Drag the objects to their correct bin.
Slide 6 Learning the 6 characteristics of advocacy. Directions: Repeat the Saying and then read the definitions with a partner. "Lets Create a Perfect Life For Tomorrow" Learning – the advocate continually researches the issue and attempts to view the issue objectively Communicating – the advocate is able to clearly and persuasively articulate personal perspective Persevering – the advocate is determined and remains firmly committed to the issue Listening – the advocate hears what others are saying and communicates an understanding of what is being said Focused – the advocate is passionate about the issue while speaking to others and promoting action Trustworthiness – the advocate values the need for being credible and honest to everyone involved
