Why? 3 “Friends” Job is suffering because he doesn’t have enough faith and has not repented of sin.
Job maintains he is innocent That his suffering is persecution That God has ignored his suffering Elihu Elihu proposes that God speaks thru pain and suffering so a person will evaluate their life and change and have a closer, deeper relationship with him.
God’s Reply As Creator I have all knowledge and power. Do you know how the universe works? Then who are you to tell me how to run it? I can do whatever I want. That is all you need to know.
Job’s Response God is all powerful. He can do what he wants. No one can interfere. My eyes have seen God. I repent of confronting God as unfair and uncaring.
End of the Story Job’s 3 “friends” were wrong and need to present a sacrifice. Job will pray for them and God will accept his prayer.
Application Why do bad things happen to good people? We stray from God’s will and do what we want. We live in a fallen world. It will glorify God. Knowing why doesn’t help us deal with suffering.
Choosing faith in the midst of suffering … … will not eliminate the pain. … will not stop the questions. … will not create a “logical” reason for your suffering. … will remind you that God is in control. … will be a rare gift to God. … will bring you closer to God. Will you lay your pain at Jesus’ feet?
