Twitter • Developing a presence on Twitter is a great way to increase your knowledge of technology, social media, marketing and your industry • Create your bio as if it's an online resume, or an introduction at a professional conference. Include a professional picture of your face, a website and an "elevator pitch" of your professional experience and interests. • Think of Twitter as a conversation at a work-based social gathering. Keep your topics educational, news related, entertaining and slightly personal.
Networking on Twitter • Find former and current colleagues on Twitter. • Go to WeFollow or Twellow to find industry leaders on Twitter. • Don't be shy, if you find a post that you want to respond to. • Tweet consistently, but not constantly. • Follow trending topics and hashtags. • Ask for advice on Twitter.
Creating your own website • Rent a domain • Get a web hosting service • GoDaddy • 1and1 • Bluehost • HostGator • FatCow • Tip: Many services will lure you for a cheap price. However these discounts only apply for the first year
Managing your site • Use a CMS such as: • Wordpress • Drupal • Joomla • Level of configuration varies for CMS used. For example, Worpress is simpler to use but Drupal is the more flexible • http://www.forgefun.com/
