  3. History of LinkedIn - Changes LinkedIn was founded in December 2002 by Reid Hoffman & Launched in May 2003. Milestones: 2006 = 20 million viewers 2013= 259 million users in over 200 countries and territories
  4. Profile Page Includes but not limited to: Experience, Languages, Skills & Endorsements, Education.
  5. Endorsements Trivia Question: What is a journalist without credibility? A: Sam Ruben, KTLA (Mistaked Samuel Jackson For Laurence Fishbourne)
  6. What is it best used for? Find jobs, people and business opportunities Employers can list jobs and search for potential candidates. Job seekers can review the profile of hiring managers and discover which of their existing contacts can introduce them. Post photos and view photos of others to aid in identification. Follow different companies and can receive notifications about the new joining and offers available. Save jobs that they would like to apply for. "like" and "congratulate" each other's updates and new employments. See who has visited their profile page.
  7. What is it not good for? Not a site for making friend. Do not add people that you are not associated with. No Spam messages No negative comments Do not over post, this is not Twitter

  14. Tags (Jasmine) The purpose of tags are to help you group and organize your contacts. Tags will only be visible to you in the person’s contact information on their profile. Also, by clicking on a tag, other people who are under the same tag will be shown.
  15. How to Add and Remove Tags (Jasmine) Creating: Network -> Contacts Can go to individual contacts and tag them, click individual checkboxes, or hit “Select all” Then click “Tag” next to the “Select all” checkbox and choose your tag

  17. Keywords (Jasmine) Are used to optimize your profile. Effective keywords make your profile easier to find. Use terms to engage and resonate with clients Should be quick and descriptive Best sections to use in: Headline Current and Past Positions Website In the Profile Summary
  18. Customize URLs (Jasmine) When you customize your URL, it allows your LinkedIn profile to show up in all major search engine results. This leads people back to you. To customize: Click the Profile tab -> In the Name Box click “Edit” -> Enter changes and click “Set Custom URL”

  20. Connections (Jasmine) Are your contacts, or anyone you have added to your network. Generally, the people you want as your connections are the intended audience for your content, ads and message.

How to Find Connections (Jasmine) Take time and review personal and professional contacts to decide who to connect with Search for active people or companies in market Look at the “People You May Know” Section on Home page Look at the connections of your connections Also, use “Add Connections” on Home page to import contacts from email(s) Use filters to help you customize your results Use the “Advance” search feature if you want to be more specific Work towards building meaningful relationships
  22. Uploading Resumes (Jasmine) LinkedIn does not give you the option to upload a resume anymore. Your profile is essentially your resume. However, you can use one of your link spots in your “Website” section to point towards your resume if it is stored somewhere else online

Second-Degree Connections (Jasmine) In your LinkedIn Network, your connections are made up of 1st-degree, 2nd-degree, and 3rd-degree connections from people in your LinkedIn Groups 1st-Degree are people who you accepted as a connection, or visa versa 2nd-Degree are people who are the connections or your 1st-degree 3rd-Degree are people connected to your second degree

  25. Finding a Job The Search Bar is your friend! -Use keywords such as people, jobs, companies, etc. -Also take advantage of the Advanced options: Location, Company Size, Experience, Interests and more! The more you search, the more you get.
  26. Find and Follow Companies How to find them: -Companies------> Search (Using Name, Location, or Keyword) To Follow: You may follow up to 1,000 companies -Click “Follow” icon next to company name
  27. Messages Similar to email Contains: Invitations, Sent, Archive and Trash -Invitations=Connections
  28. Groups Used to enhance business connections -Post and view jobs, make business contacts, etc. -Professional, alumni, work, etc. -Groups suggested for you Two ways to find them: -Search -Via Interests Tab
  29. Video Can create Video Ads -Up to 2 minutes long -Similar to text advertisement. Just click “Video” from the “Media Type” dropdown -Cost Per View (CPV) meaning user will only pay when ad is clicked on. -Minimum CPV bid is $4.00
  30. Terms and Conditions LinkedIn allowed to share information with 3rd party if it violates law, subpoena, or other legal factors. -PROFILES ARE PUBLIC! -Ads purposely target members and visitors -Sends your information to other members

Clients -Optimize your profile with keywords a client may use -Make them easy and accessible & add them to Title and “Summary Section” of your profile -Form relationships with clients -Network and build connections -Build relationship with strong communication -Move offline -Move off of LinkedIn and communicate via phone or email to establish a business connection
