  2. Contents • Description of CSCM tests (Arjan) • Status and Plans (Hugues) • mQPS (Jens)

  3. CSCM Objectives • Objectives of CSCM tests • Concerned circuits: RB, RQD and RQF • Determine the max. safe energy of LHC (4 - 5 TeV) • Other limitations (LHC non conformities) • RQX.R1 • RB.A78 (B30R7) • Other limitations ? (to be defined) • Assumptions • Time constants of the EE systems • 4 TeV: RB = 51 s, RQ = 10 s • 4.5 TeV: RB = 68 s, RQ = 15 s • 5 TeV: RB = 68 s, RQ = 15 s • No defect on the diode path

  4. CSCM Tests • CSCM current cycle (see Arjan presentation) • Heat the defect to identify it (runaway) Temp : 20 K Current : 4 kA – 6 kA Time : 10 s – 50 s Max T : 200 K Interlock = protection = stop the tests at the beginning of the runaway before destroying the splice interlock RB busbar 20 K – 6 kA 52 uOhm 0.2 s 50 mV mQPS threshold

  5. CSCM Tests • CSCM protection system (see Jens presentation) • 3 elements have to be protected • Splice = mQPS • Diode path (or magnet) = Qsym • CL = Qcl Qcl (CL at nominal operating conditions) Qsym mBS 20 K

  6. CSCM Tests • Power Converters • Use the same power converters for the 3 circuits (RB) • Voltage budget (RB): • 20K • Vdiode_rb # 265 V and Vdiode_rq # 90 V (Vdiode # 1.7 V @ 20 K) • Vdc_cable # 10 V @ 6 kA • Vbusbar_rb # 15 V @ 6 kA and Vbusbar_rq # 30 V @ 6 kA 280 - 290 V @ 20 K

  7. CSCM Tests • Power converter resources (20K) • 2 RB bridges in series
