  3. Clinical Presentation: Anorexia Nervosa • Low weight • Amenorrhea • Yellow skin • Lanugo • Cold extremities • Peripheral edema • Muscle weakness • Constipation • Low T3, T4 • Hypotension, bradycardia, hypokalemia • Decreased bone density B F Menu

  4. Phenomena: Bulimia Nervosa • Binge eating • Self-induced vomiting (or laxative or diuretic use) • Depression • Interpersonal relations problems • Self concept problems • Impulsive • Increased anxiety, compulsivity • Chemical dependency common B F Menu

  5. Clinical Presentation: Bulimia Nervosa • Normal to slightly low weight • Dental caries, erosion • Parotid swelling • Gastric dilation, rupture • Calluses, scars on hand • Peripheral edema • Muscle weakness • Abnormal K, Na values • EKG changes, cardiomyopathy B F Menu

Admission Criteria: Eating Disorder • Weight loss over 30% over 6 months • T below 36 °C or 96.8 °F • Inability to gain weight as outpatient • P less than 40 BPM • Systolic BP less than 70 mm Hg • Hypokalemia (under 3 mEq/L) • Arrhythmias • Suicidal or self-mutilating • Severe depression/psychosis • Family crisis • Failure to comply with treatment B Menu
