Project Goals • Enhance physical activity in youth and seniors • Build recreation infrastructure to accommodate existing and new recreation programs • Increase the profile of the Antigonish community by encouraging events, activities, and business development that will have a positive economic impact on the area and stimulate community development
Project Goals • Working with Events Nova Scotia to bid for and host major events, which is a key component to the sustainable growth of Nova Scotia’s economy – generating jobs, economic benefits and tax dollars for the benefit of all Nova Scotians.
Supporting Growth in our Community • Soccer in Antigonish is continuously growing and this project will encourage this trend. • Football is well established but continues to grow and is becoming more popular on an annual basis. • New regulation baseball field will accommodate midget and senior ball. STFX baseball team will no longer have to travel to Pictou to practice and play. • This project will spark new interest and excitement in track and field which will in turn allow the sport to grow. • These new facilities will encourage new, less costly sports to develop in our community such as lacrosse, ultimate frisbee, and touch football.
Regional Impact & Economic Benefits • New Infrastructure will help develop new programs to promote active lifestyles for all ages. • Recreational infrastructure is one of the economic pillars essential to supporting Antigonish’s large service sector. • The construction of this infrastructure will make it more attractive to new residents and businesses.
Regional Impact & Economic Benefits • The scope and quality of these facilities will allow for sporting events of all magnitudes to be hosted in the community of Antigonish. • Hosting large sporting events will have both direct and indirect effects. • Direct effects will come in the form of revenue increases from local hotels, restaurants and retail owners. • Indirect effects will occur later on in the timeline, in the form of economic spinoffs such as increased investment spending via businesses and varying levels of government.
