Type of Government Cont… USA • We have the freedom of speech/press to a certain point • We have the freedom of religion, we can pick any religion we want to. • We have the right to bear arms Poland • They have the freedom of expression this means they have to right to hold opinion • They have the freedom of religion • They have very strict gun laws and they figure there is one gun own out of 100 people. You must have a license for a gun and you have to go through a lengthy process to get one. you have to repeat the process every 5 years. you can only get one gun

Political Parties USA • We have a two party system is the US • We have the Democrats and the Republicans • Democrats are more liberal they support gay marriage, decrease military spending and the death penalty. Their symbol is a donkey and their color is blue. • Republicans are more conservatives they oppose gay marriage. They support the death penalty and increased military spending. Their symbol is the elephant and their color is red. Poland • They have a multiparty system with a few groups • The groups names are Civics Platform, Law and Justice, and Palikot’s Movement • Civics Platform- centre right, liberal conservatism, christian democracy. Their color is yellow. • Law and Justice- right wing, national conservatism, social conservatism. Their color is blue. • Palikot’s Movement- centre right, liberalism, radicalism, anti clericalism. Their color is orange.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING USA • Must be a United States citizen • Be 18 years old by December 31 of the year in which you file the form • Live at current address at least 30 days before an election • Not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction • Not claim the right to vote else where • We have presidential elections every four years and congress elections every two years • We have primary and general elections Poland • Must be polish citizen • Must be 18 years old • 1. Local Council election • 2. Local Mayor election • 3. Presidential Election • 4. Sejm Election • 5. Senate Election • 6. European Parliament Election • The president has a five year term and the senat and sejm has a four year term.

  8. Law USA Uses the death penalty People can serve in jail from a few months to life in prison, also they can be on parole or house arrest. More than 2.3 ,million people in jail Between 2010 and 2011 violent victimized crime increased 17% Between 2010 and 2011 property crime increased 11% These have both gone down in 2012 and 2013 These are the US court systems- U.S. Supreme Court Federal Courts of Appeal Federal District Courts State Courts Court of Claims Court of Military Appeals Court of International Trade Poland Their national crime rate is 22.7% out of the population but it is decreasing just like the US’s They do not use the death penalty since September first 1998 86,303 people are in prison in Poland Poland has a four tiered court system: regional, provincial, appellate divisions, and a Supreme Court
