Needs • Schools are under intense pressure for students to achieve higher gains on state and national “tests” • Teachers are coping to change from the way they learned to teach, to data-driven methods (New Evaluation) • States and Districts must utilizeCommon Core Standards & Next Gen Science Standards for developing content • Context - Students are able to achieve higher gains when they can connect learning to their life experiences • Competition for student interest is INTENSE! • West Virginia faces many different educational inequities
Needs • 89% of high school teachers described their students as “well prepared” for college while only approximately 25% of college faculty believed that their incoming students were prepared for their courses • This report suggested a continuing lack of curriculum alignment between K-12 and Post-secondary (The Chronicle of Higher Education, 2013) • 67% of teachers expected to change their current curriculum "not at all" or "slightly" to fit the new standards.

Goals • Consistentapproach for teaching and learning the next generation mathematics regardless of location, teacher access, and socioeconomic status. • Connect teachers across schools to share innovative instructional and curricular strategies as well as to collaborate on confronting issues. • Develop rigorous digital content based-on the newly adopted standards in collaboration across the university and K-12 that will help close the gap between secondary and post-secondary education.
Goals • Utilize innovative student assessment to track student education progress to promote mastery learning by enabling teachers and content designers to make data-based decisions on curriculum and instruction. • Increase student proficiency and participation among the STEM disciplines by using the latest technologies for creating state-of-art engaging digital activities and content. • Provide authentic real world educational experiences through the use of technology
