convention United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities → not yet ratified → disability is a human right
Situation • The pathway to the world of work is still blocked • Inaccesbility of the built enviroment, public transport, attitudes, lack of information about available solutions and funding for those solutions etc. • Alternative paths to the work, shorter hours and flexible arrangements provide opportunities
Results of the research • Inquiry research for disabled persons: employment, willingness to work, working ability. • 35 % of disabled persons have excellent or good working ability. • Slightly less than 50 % of disabled persons are trying to get work, hence in Finland there are about 23 000 disabled persons with good working ability willing to work. • Technical device and accessibility of working environment would enable many of the disabled to work.

peer support Our guiding principle is peer support. This means mutual support and the sharing of experiences. People with neuromuscular disorders can meet in a safe and approving atmosphere, exchange views and discuss how they have managed to move on and to cope better. Working & disability pension • Disability pension can be left to rest (min. 3 months, max. 2 years), entitlement remains, but payment is stopped earning-related pension (earning limits) national disability pension (Kela), 600 euros/ month
