AASHTO Goal Cut Fatalities in Half by 2030 with a Vision Towards Zero Fatalities
AASHTO-Safety Standing Committee on Highway Traffic Safety (SCOHTS) • 25 members (5 from each region) Subcommittee on Safety Management (SCOHTS-SM) • 3 Representatives from Each State • 6 Task Groups/Technical Committees

SCOH STRATEGIC PLAN: Overarching Objectives and Action Items 1.1 Technical Services • Develop and effectively disseminate standards, specifications, technical policies, technological advancements and best practices that improve the quality and safetyof the nation’s highway system while integrating it into a modern, multi-modal transportation network.
Overarching Objectives and Action Items 1.1 Technical Services-Action Item 1 • SCOH will provide the strategic direction on priorities to its subcommittees and technical committees for their development of policies, procedures, and technical standards.
SCOH Strategic Objective Promote highway-related strategies to assist in cutting fatalities by half by 2030 with a vision towards zero fatalities.
Cut Fatalities in Half by 2030 Action Item 3.1 • SCOH Agenda will include time to discuss best practices and lessons learned based on strategies they used to address safety in their home state. • Subcommittees will present a summary of strategies developed to help reduce fatalities. • SCOHTS will provide updates on strategies developed and implemented. • Chief Engineer Report Out

Cut Fatalities in Half by 2030 Action Item 3.2 • SCOH collaborate s with SCOHTS and support strategies identified by SCOHTS and SM to help states work with their local partners to reduce fatalities.
Implementation of 3.2 • Resolution regarding support of local agencies to be adopted by Board of Directors. • Performance measure resolution for each state. • SCOHTS Strategic Plan (SM)
Cut Fatalities in Half by 2030 Action Item 3.3 • SCOH will provide input to SCOR and TIG in prioritizing research and use of technologies including ITS and IntelliDrive in addressing collisions and fatality reduction.
Implementation of 3.3 • Proposed Research usRAP to NCHRP 20-7. • HSM Lead State Initiative • HSM Training Synthesis • National SHSP Peer Exchange • SCOH to lead work with SCOR.

Cut Fatalities in Half by 2030 Action Item 3.5 • SCOH and SCOHTS will jointly sponsor webinars and conduct joint meetings to discuss and sponsor research proposals and other joint activities to increase collaborative efforts to reduce fatalities.
Implementation of 3.5 • Liaison to work with SCOHTS/SCOHTS-SM. • Subcommittees need to be engaged, collaborate, and coordinate efforts. • Subcommittees need to effectively communicate within and with other Subcommittees.
