  1. Delivering the reintegration agenda Jez Stannard Programme Manager

  2. The Importance of Reintegration I truly value the importance ofemployment as part of the recoveryprocess – the structure is incredibly important so individuals aren’t left to their own devices (SARAH) • Warehousing drug users in treatment is a less attractive option • Reintegration sustains recovery and makes treatment more effective • Without an outlet for recovering drug users progress made in treatment is put at risk • As is the £800m annual investment in drug treatment

  3. Recent Progress • Reintegration a central theme of 2008-2018 Drug Strategy • New role for Department for Work and Pensions and Jobcentre Plus • Joint agreement NTA and JCP, plus £9m DH funding Drug Coordinators • New relationships between Jobcentre Plus and local treatment systems • Voluntary referral pathway from JCP → treatment in place but needs improving

  4. Challenges for all delivery partners • Improved collaborative working between JCP and treatment providers • Moving JCP focus beyond referrals to treatment towards effective personalised support and reintegration into the labour market • Implementing changes in October 2010 with the Welfare Reform Bill • Becoming ‘job ready’ is complex with barriers on both drug user/employer side • Provision of stable accommodation is critical to success

  5. Range of support needs (UKDPC, Dec 2008)
