Trends Observed by FWN • Disproportionate ethnic representation • Cultural disconnection • Intergenerational family offending • Intergenerational family violence • Separation for children, partners and family • Geographical isolation • Grief and Loss
Trends Observed by FWN • Complex family background • Educationally disadvantaged • Relationship difficulties • Gang or peer pressure related to offending • Addictions
What women want • Greater co-ordination of services in prison • Better recognition by courts of the impact of imprisonment on families • Staying connected with family and community • Counselling and anger management related to their role as parent, partner and family member
What women want • Immediate access to community support upon release • Better communication between agencies and providers • Achieving parole • More achievable & realistic community options that don’t set them up to fail
