  1. Buildings consume 40-50% of the world’s energy in their construction and ongoing operation • WHAT IS GREEN BUILDING? • Green Building is energy-efficient, resource-efficient and environmentally responsible building

  2. VISION • The GBCSA will lead the transformation of the South African property industry • to ensure that all buildings are designed, built and operated • in an environmentally sustainable way • that will allow South Africans to work and live • in healthy, efficient and productive environments

  3. MISSION • To promote, encourage & facilitate green building in the South African property industry through market-based solutions, by: • Promoting the practice of green building • Acting as a resource centre • Developing and operating a green building rating system & • Enabling and offering training and education

  4. GREEN STAR ENVIRONMENTAL RATING SYSTEM • The GBCSA is currently adapting the Australian Green Star Rating Tool for SA • The first tool – for Commercial Office buildings – will be launched in pilot in July 08 • This tool will be finalized by November • Additional tools will follow e.g. Retail, Multi-unit residential etc

GREEN STAR ACCREDITED PROFESSIONAL COURSE • Learn about how the Green Star SA Rating System works • Attend the 1 day Green Star SA Accredited Professional Course • Sit the exam to become an official Green Star SA Accredited Professional • Be listed on the GBCSA Accredited Professionals Directory • Look out for the first course 5 Nov ‘08
