  7. The poor have a privileged place in the gospel. In a world deeply scarred by injustice and inhuman living conditions, we are called to give preferential service to the poor. Recognizing that the human heart is at the root of all oppressive structures and systems, we struggle against sinfulness in our own lives; and in whatever situation we are, we stand for justice, freedom and peace. In these efforts, we follow the teaching of the gospel to strive to overcome evil with good. (112. Constitutions)

  11. Our recognition of the dignity and intrinsic value of the human person is more important than any material help we can give. Our solidarity with the poor requires that we work not only for them but with them, learning from their real needs and aspirations. We encourage them to use their own initiative and resources so that gradually they better their living conditions and become ready to help others. (112.1 Constitutions)

  15. In our efforts to combat hunger, ignorance and the denial of human rights, we follow Catholic social teaching and directives of the local church. Social problems are to be found in all parts of the world. Therefore, wherever we are, we endeavor to develop an informed social conscience, so that we and others will recognize our Christian responsibility for social justice. (112.2 Constitutions)
