A player with numerous alts Aggro 1. N. The condition of being attacked by a mob. Usage: The rogue stole aggro from the warrior. 2. V. To engage a mob in combat purposely or otherwise. Usage: Our hunter aggroed the boss before we were ready. Alt (or Toon) 1. N. An alternate character usually lower level than a player’s primary character. Usage: On my guild’s off days, I usually play my Blood Elf alt. AoE ( or AE) 1. N. A spell or ability which effects targets within a certain radius as opposed to a single target. Usage: You will need at least 100 fire resistance to resist the boss’ AoE. 2. V. To use AoE spells to kill multiple mobs simultaneously. Usage: The casters are AoEing in Sebilis. Target ring for AoE spells
Avatar 1. N. The visual representation of a player character. Usage: My avatar is decked out in tier 5 armor. Bot 1. N. A character that interacts with the game world without the player’s presence. This mode of play is often facilitated by third party programs and can be a violation of a game’s license agreement. Usage: My cleric bot complete heals at 30% and patches at 15%. 2. V. To play a character while being absent. Usage: I botted overnight to raise my fishing. Box 1. N. A character played by someone who is playing another character simultaneously. Usage: I‘ll heal with my priest box. 2. V. To play two or more characters simultaneously. Usage: My guildmate three-boxes instances. An in-game avatar Rig for five-boxing and/or hacking the Matrix
An angry warrior’s buff window Buff 1. N. A temporary beneficial spell or effect that augments a character’s statistics. Usage: Toss me an attack power buff. 2. V. To temporarily augment a character’s statistics. Usage: Make sure to buff the hunters with intellect also. Build 1. N. A set of complimentary talents or skills designed to greatly enhance one or more aspect of a character. Usage: A beast mastery build is useful for leveling but has drawbacks in raids. Camp 1. N. An area designated by players in which creatures respawn. Camps are commonly named after nearby structures or creatures. Usage: Please check if that camp is open. 2. V. To slay creatures in a specific area. Usage: I’m camping frenzy with two others. Shadow priest talent build
Allies camping an Undead player. Boo! Corpse Camping 1. V. To repeatedly kill a player at his or her character’s corpse. Usage: A level 70 is corpse camping me at Tarren Mill. Crit 1. N. A hit, spell, or ability that is more effective than usual. Usage: My highest crit so far is 1,337. Crowd Control (or CC) 1. N. A method of temporarily limiting an opponent’s ability to harm other characters. Particularly useful when fighting multiple opponents. Usage: Our group needs some crowd control before we can do that dungeon. Debuff 1. N. A temporary detrimental effect that reduces an opponent’s statistics. Usage: The mob has an armor debuff. 2. V. To temporarily reduce an opponent’s statistics. Usage: Be sure to cast your resist debuff during the fight. A polymorphed player
Ding 1. V. To level up. The term is derived from the sound that typically plays after a player levels up. Usage: My hunter just dinged 70. Drop (or Loot) 1. N. Items which are attained by slaying an opponent. Usage: Did your group get any good drops in the instance? Dupe 1. V. A method of duplicating items or currency. Duping is often used to accumulate a virtual fortune with minimal time invested and is a grave offense in many online games. Usage: My friend was banned for duping his Curiass of Sad Exploitation. Elite 1. N. A creature with enhanced statistics. These creatures are designed to be killed by two or more players. Usage: A level 70 elite is roaming around the zone. A player “dinging”
New races from Burning Crusade expansion Expansion 1. N. Software which adds content to an existing game. Usage: The upcoming expansion will allow players to attain level 80. Exploit 1. N. A repeatable in-game bug which diminishes an encounter’s intended difficulty. Usage: The guild was suspended for using an exploit to bypass a locked zone. 2. V. To purposely use an in-game bug to diminish an encounter’s intended difficulty. Usage: I was caught exploiting a bug which prevented me from taking damage. Farm 1. V. To repeatedly kill creatures for purposes other than gaining experience. Usage: I farmed Wetlands for days for my tiny crimson whelpling. Warsong Gulch exploit
