  2. Poor Decisions of Roman Government • Efforts to rule surrounding countries • False accusing of people • Tax cuts for lower class= more money • Both Nero and Caligula ended up killed for Poor

  3. Roman Emperor Nero • Tried to please lower class • Gave authority to tax to lower commissioners • A fire in Rome occurred in 46 AD • Nero wanted major reconstruction for his city • Became a public enemy • Was going to be executed, but committed suicide

  4. Roman Emperor Caligula • Financial crisis emerged in 39AD • Had used all the support and profit • Began falsely accusing people • Also, began auctioning gladiators lives • He was assassinated

  5. Poor Decisions of U.S. Government • Caused the recession • Tax cuts for rich= more money • Economic Stimulus Package • Willadd to our debt over time for Rich

  6. Bad Decisions By President George W. Bush • Won’t sign on to the Kyoto Protocol • Tax cuts made by Bush have put our country in billions of dollars more in debt • These tax cuts favored the rich

  7. Results of President Bush’s Bad Decisions • The total US debt in 2008 was $10 trillion • This resulted in budget deficits and lower job growth • He is not respected by other countries • The US is the only country who has not tried to sign on to the Kyoto Protocol

  8. Bad Decisions/ Characteristics of President Obama • Has spent millions of dollars on health care reform • Used $787 billion for economic stimulus package • Was an unknown, inexperienced senator • Had little to no accomplishments as senator

  9. Similarities in Poor Government Decisions • Tax cuts • Efforts for reconstructing/ upgrading public works • Disrespect for presidents/ emperors

  10. Differences in Poor Government Decisions • Bush’s tax cuts favored the rich, Nero’s favored the poor • Roman emperors = killed • Bush/ Obama = not killed • Unlike Rome, the US is not trying to rule surrounding countries

Is the US following in Rome’s footsteps? • Answer- in terms of poor government decisions, yes • Both Nero and Bush provided tax cuts • Caligula and Bush got their countries into recessions. • Nero and Obama wanted reconstruction/upgrading of public works • All of these leaders are disrespected
