ASI Student Issues List • Lab Refresh • All campus labs need a complete refresh plan • Open Lab computers should have all software • Open Labs should be more accessible • Classes should not be held in open labs • More locations, hours • Marketing of resources • Keyserver • Expand service to include more software for each department/major • Access to keyserver in multiple locations: classroom, laboratory, and home • Classroom • Laboratory • Home (With expiration date)

SC3 – Student Campus Computing Committee • Mission Statement: To provide students with a reliable means of advocacy and requirements on efficient use of campus technology, academically and in student life. • The roller coaster of student involvement in university affairs is a threat to the institution's reputation of excellence. Students should be involved in their campus and its services for their time at Cal Poly and their time as alumni. • The filters it must pass through in order to be heard hinder the student voice in technology matters. Currently, student options and preferences involving technology matters can only be facilitated through the IACC and AACC, each of which hold two student representatives. Four students cannot fully serve the interests of 16,000 students. • The committee will report directly to IRMPPC in a manner similar to that of the IACC and the AACC, with representation at the IRMPPC meetings. The committee will meet bi-weekly at a set time.

  5. SC3 – Student Campus Computing Committee • SUGGESTED MAKEUP • (6) – Representatives from each of the six colleges. The members will be appointed by the college counsels based on the best interests of the colleges with respect to technology issues. They should be students who are in touch with what the students in the college need from technology, but not involved per se in technology. • (1) – Liaison to ITS with direct access to the CIO • (1) – Non-voting representative from ITS • (1) – Non-voting staff member from ASI • (3) – ASI representatives. Appointed by the ASI President. One to represent ASI interests in student technology advocacy. Two to represent technical groups on campus, i.e. IEEE or ACM. • (1) -- IRMPPC student representative • (1) – Appointed Chairperson • Representatives will serve staggered 2-year terms to ensure continuity of involvement and informed membership.

  6. SC3 – Student Campus Computing Committee • C - Creation - A facet of the committee will work with ITS and others in the creation of IT services on campus. This group would be involved in the requirements phase of a project, assuring that the requirements for proposed projects fit in the best interest of the students and the university. • M - Maintenance - A facet of the committee that will review existing systems and services at Cal Poly. This group would conduct surveys and research, as well as service requests and complaints made through Judicial Relations, on the constant evolution of services and products. • I – Innovation - A facet of the committee will be to research possible services that can be added to the Cal Poly system. This group would go out and look at publications, articles, existing systems, and other universities to find new ideas to bring to Cal Poly.

  7. SC3 – Student Campus Computing Committee • The following questions will need to be asked and answered for every issue: • Is the project possible? Does the university have the technical know-how to complete this project? • Should we complete this project? Is this project in the best interests of students? • How are we going to fund this project?
