Connecting Families Working in Partnership with Family Matters
“Constant support, friendly advice, able to make contact at any time.”
Family Matters • The Background: • Bath Christian Action Network ( www.bathcan.net ) & Civic Engagement • Contact with B&NES Council’s Connecting Families Project
“My worker helped me in many ways such as helping me get a job and stood with me and advised me all the way.”
Family Matters • Supporting families because families matter • Vision: to see families equipped for life • Partner with B&NES Connecting Families Service to support their exit strategy. • The aim of the Family Matters steering group is to recruit, train and support volunteers to work with families with multiple and complex needs.
“Achieved a lot, still a few things to do. There will always be things that pop up but I feel 100% in a better place to deal with it.”
Family Matters • Where are we now? • Charitable Status in place with Genesis Trust • Pilot areas (tbc) • Twerton/Southdown/Whiteway • Foxhill • Peasedown St John • People Pilot • To test our systems and procedures before the main training • Is it fit for purpose/health and safety? • Testing Quality Assurance and feedback from pilot volunteers and families
“My keyworker’s non-judgemental easy going approach, I have problems trusting people but feel I can trust her, she always listens and doesn’t tell me I am wrong just advises me on a different way. She has helped make many situations much easier to deal with.”
Family Matters • Timeline • Pilot to start mid/end July (10 weeks) • Training through the early autumn months • Start to work with families in November • Regular meetings of the Family Matters Steering Group and the Project Group for 10 in 100 • By October results in from the People Pilot and Quality Assurance feedback • Celebrate launch of main project in November
“His calm approach, the fact I know I can trust him. He has helped me feel more confident. He ignores his phone when he is with me and listens fully to what I am saying.”
What we need from our Dragon • Believes in what we are doing • Help with the project planning/timing • Help with policies/procedures/governance • Be a critical friend • Advocate our project
