Mission Our mission is to promote, support, and advocate for HBCUs and minority serving institutions, their CDC partners, and the CED industry. Our work creates wealth, builds healthy and sustainable communities, and achieves lasting economic viability. We fulfill our mission through advocacy, education, resource development, training, technical assistance and other community development activities. Improving Lives on Campuses and in our Communities

Short Term Goals DRAFT Improving Lives on Campuses and in our Communities
Strategic Statement Adopted 11/12/10 The HBCU-CDAC will pursue the following strategic direction: • Be a highly visible, well-respected, professional development organization that attracts increased numbers of members, partners, and volunteers while building its financial resources to support operations. • Be a leader in working with a range of partners (not just HBCUs) to identify and meet the needs of communities surrounding HBCUs. • Be a leader in advocating at all levels of government, and with the private sector and the public at large for full funding and support of community economic development initiatives in HBCU communities. • Be a leader in developing and training a stable, highly qualified and motivated workforce that actively delivers community economic development services by providing quality technical assistance services to HBCUs, CDCs, and other CED organizations serving HBCU communities. • Be a leader in developing model standards for management of community economic development service providers serving HBCU communities. Successful implementation of this strategic plan will result in more quality services delivered to HBCU communities, and a broader array of resources in these communities. Policy Agenda DRAFT • Housing and Urban Development • Continuation of the HUD/HBCU program at current funding levels • Designation of un-granted HUD/HBCU funds for training and technical assistance, mini-grants, and research • Requirement of partnership with an HBCU if one is located within 50 miles of a funded sustainable communities regional planning grant • Department of Interior • Continue the historic preservation grants for HBCUs (ARRA program) • Relax rules requiring listing on the historic register if the building is more than 75 years old • HBCU Capital Financing Loan Program • Increase funding • Reduce the amount of the default set aside from 5% to 2% • Allow university-affiliated entities to be the debt owner Improving Lives on Campuses and in our Communities
