THE COLOURS THAT ARE SUPPORTED CORDIALLY The colours of all teams that make us so happy after a great victory, make us sad, even make us cry after a loss symbolize different things and they have very deep and different meanings. Most of the sports clubs around the world were inspired by the big events of their era while they were being founded and the colours of their jerseys were being determined.

FENERBAHÇESPORTS CLUBYELLOW - DARK BLUE WHY DID FENERBAHÇE CHOOSE YELLOW AND DARK BLUE? • During the first years of its foundation, Fenerbahçe had yellow and white colours, the colours of daisies, because the yellow part of daisies are the harbingers of spring and the white leaves of daisies symbolize honesty and purity. Fenerbahçe had yellow and white on its jersey until the autumn of 1910, for three years after its foundation.

BEŞİKTAŞGYMNASTICS CLUBBLACK - WHITE WHY DID BEŞİKTAŞ CHOOSE WHITE and YELLOW? • It has been stated for years that Beşiktaş had red and white colours during the first years of its foundation, but after Turkish army had lost the Balkan Wars, the club chose black instead of red to mourn the thousands of martyrs. • On the other hand, there are some claims that Beşiktaş has never had red colours. They have always had black and white colours so far.

These colours have a vital importance for Turkey because they are the colours of the Turkish flag. • There was a French dominence over the club those years and the French people in the team felt offended by these colours. Thereupon, team management wanted to have yellow and black colours but these colours failed to be permanent, and they finally offered red and yellow colours and these colours are still used by 6alatasaray. There is still nothing certain about what these colours symbolize.

  7. TRABZONSPORMAROON - BLUE WHY DID TRABZONSPOR CHOOSE MAROON and BLUE? • Beforethefoundation of Trabzonspor, therewas a localdivision in thecity of Trabzon. Therivalrybetweenlocalteamsweresohuge. Thereweretwobigrivals: İdmanocağıspor (RedandYellow) andİdmangücüspor (Greenand White) • In 1967, a newteamcalled Trabzonspor wasfoundedand it shouldhave had differentcoloursfromthoseteams. Theyshouldhavedeterminedtwocolours. One of themshouldhavesymbolized Trabzon andtheothershouldhavesymbolizedthe Black Sea.

  8. TRABZONSPOR WHY DID TRABZONSPOR CHOOSE MAROON and BLUE? • To determine two proper colours, the team management had long hours of meetings. The fifth meeting would be the end of this long-lasting process. The managers of the two big local teams offered two colours: Dark Maroon by Indamocağıspor and Light Blue by Idmangucu. After this meeting, Trabzonspor has had light blue and dark maroon colours. • The other story about the colours of Trabzonspor is that light blue symbolizes the skin colour of anchovies that is the symbol of Black Sea and dark maroon symbolizes the eye colour of anchovies.   9. MKE ANKARAGÜCÜYELLOW – NAVY BLUE WHY DID ANKARAGÜCÜ CHOOSE YELLOW AND DARK BLUE • A nice story about Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish republic, determined the colours of Ankaragücü. After the independence war, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk visits Ankara one day. He is served very delicious dark blue grapes that are an endemic for Ankara and it is only grown in Ankara and very sweet melon. After eating them Atatürk says grapes are the richest glycose source for people. It gives power to people. The dark blue colour of Ankaragücü symbolizes these delicious dark blue grapes that are the symbol of strength, and the yellow colour of Ankaragücü jersey is the symbol of melon that is a symbol of ambition and success.

  10. GENÇLERBİRLİĞİRED - BLACK • The founders of Gençlerbirliği were inspired by the poppies, a precious and slim kind of flower, that blossom on the vast steppes of Ankara while determining teh colours of the team. WHY DID GENÇLERBİRLİĞİ CHOOSE RED AND BLACK?

  11. BURSASPORGREEN -WHITE WHY DID BURASASPOR CHOOSE GREEN AND WHITE? • Bursa is one of the greenest cities of Turkey. It has a very vast green plain and a huge mountain, the top of which is always covered with snow even in summer, so green colour symbolizes the green plain and the white colour symbolizes Uludağ, the mountain in the city.
