  3. Heb 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he con-demned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. Gr. eulabeomai -(Middle Voice) 1) to act cautiously, circumspectly 2) to beware, fear 3) to reverence, stand in awe of (Thayer) First imputed, then manifested After the Flood

  4. “Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished” “…to the saving of his house” After the Flood

  5. Righteous Noah Signifies – rest, repose, consolation. Gen. 5:29– And (Lamech) called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort(nacham – to comfort, console) us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed. Gen. 6:8 – But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. Gen. 6:9 – Noah was a justman and perfect in his generations, andNoah walked with God. Gen. 6:22 – Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he. tsaddiyq - just, righteous (in conduct and character) After the Flood

  6. Righteous Noah Gen. 7:1– And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation. Gen. 8:1 – And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark. Gen. 9:1 – And God blessed Noah and his sons. Ezek. 14:14 – Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD. tsedaqah - justice, righteousness After the Flood

  7. Righteous Noah 2 Pet. 2:5– And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world(kosmos)of the ungodly(asebes - destitute of reverential awe towards God). New beginning Immortality 2 x 4 (righteousness) – Imputed and manifested After the Flood

  8. A new beginning from Ararat Gen 8:4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. Mountains of Ararat After the Flood

  9. Heading “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.” – Gen. 9:1 After the Flood

  10. A new beginning with a difference Gen. 9:1repeats Gen. 1:28 up to the word “earth”. Struggle with carnality renewed. “and subdue it, and have dominion”is not repeated – see Gen. 8:21 – dominion over carnality and sin was lost in Gen. 3. Animals were subdued under Noah in the ark (cp. Gen. 2:19-20), but now would fear man. Fear was a product of sin – Gen. 3:10. Where sin rules, man is not entitled to peace (Isa. 57:21) – Lev. 26:22. After the Flood

  11. Yahweh as a Lion Carving from a throne found at Nimrud Hos. 5:14- “For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him.” Hos. 11:10 - “They shall walk after the LORD: he shall roar like a lion: when he shall roar, then the children shall tremble from the west.” After the Flood

  12. “Four great beasts” – God’s use of wild beasts to judge illustrated Hos. 13:7-8 Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them: I will meet them as a bearthat is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beastshall tear them. After the Flood

  13. The need for a mighty hunter Carnality and rebellion resulted in the rise of wild beasts against man – 2 Kings 17:25. There arose a need for walled cities to provide protection – hence city building revived. The early Assyrian kings gained their position and power by their ability as hunters. Tradition established by Nimrod Ashurbanipal king of Assyria 669-627 BC hunts lions from a chariot After the Flood

  14. Power gained and cemented in Assyrian culture by prowess in hunting and subduing wild beasts Ashurbanipal hunting on foot After the Flood

  15. Vengeance for blood-shedding Over-arching Principle - Ex. 21:23–“…life for life”(Num. 35:31: Deut. 19:21). • Cain the first murderer escaped with his life. • Murderous violence – hallmark of pre-flood era. • The flood was God’s response – life for life. • Present – “as it was in the days of Noah”. Redemption through every man’s brother V.5 - Anticipates the work of Christ – destroying the diabolos – “him that had the power of death”– Heb. 2:14. After the Flood

  16. The token of the Covenant “And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant” After the Flood

  17. Formation of the Rainbow Forms when raindrops separate white sunlight into a spectrum. As sunlight passes through a drop of water, it is first bent and then reflected from the back surface of the drop toward the viewer’s eye. The amount of bending, known as refraction, differs for light of different colours. Red light bends the least and violet light bends the most. Primary rainbows have red on the outside arc; the colours of secondary bows are reversed. After the Flood Viewer

  18. Colours of the Rainbow RRed O Orange Y Yellow G Green B Blue IIndigo V Violet After the Flood

  19. Sir Isaac Newton on Colours “There are therefore two sorts of colours: the one original and simple, the other compounded of these. The original or primary colours are red, yellow, green, blue, and a violet-purple, together with orange, indigo, and an indefinite variety of intermediate graduations.” He lists 7 primary colours After the Flood 1642-1727

  20. Yahweh’s everlasting covenant Gen. 9:16– “everlasting covenant”– olamberith – used together 14 times O.T. (certainty of covenant) and once N.T. – Heb. 13:20. Bro. Thomas (Eureka) – “The first place in which this covenant is alluded to is in Gen. 6:18; it does not follow, however, that no covenant existed till the time therein indicated. Yahweh had a covenant which he styled, “My covenant.” It was on account of this covenant that the race of Adam was perpetuated in Noah.” Gen. 3:15was in view with all its implications After the Flood

  21. Spiritual significance of rainbow Sevencolours represents various manifestations of complete divine glory. Completely circular (half unseen) = eternal life. Formed by refraction of sun’s rays through raindrops – product of light. Sun = Christ (Mal. 4:2). Clouds = saints (Rev. 1:7; Heb 12:1). Rain = outpouring of spirit (Joel 2:23; Deut; 32:2; Ps. 72:6). Symbol of Christ and saints in glory bringing blessings of God’s covenant to all flesh. After the Flood

  22. The rainbow in Scripture Gen. 9:13,14,16 Ezek. 1:28 Rev. 4:3; 10:1 Only 6 references to the rainbow in 4 contexts in Scripture. All occurrences follow a time of Divine judgement and the introduction of peace to the earth. The vision of Ezek. 1:28is the basis of Rev. 4 – the Cherubim at the end of their militant work now become kings and priests. After the Flood

  23. Rev. 4:2-3 “…and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there wasa rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.” The throne of David depicted after Divine judgements have brought peace to the earth After the Flood

  24. 7 Thunders The Triumph of the Rainbowed Angel “uttered their voices” Rev. 10 After the Flood

  25. After the Flood Study 2 (God willing) – “The Prophecies of Noah” After the Flood

  26. Heading After the Flood

  27. “Yahweh smelled a sweet savour” Lit. - "a fragrance of rest" "sweet" - reyach - odour (as if blown); fragrance. "savour" - niychoach - restful, i.e. pleasant. First occ. is Gen. 8:21and last Ezek. 20:41. From root nuwach - to rest, settle down. Used of attaining rest in the Land - Josh. 21:44; 22:4; 23:1; Ex. 33:14; Deut. 12:10, and of God's rest on the Sabbath - Ex. 20:11. Other sig. occs. Ex. 17:11; Ezek. 40:2. A cognate word menuchah is used Ps. 95:11; 132:8,14; Num. 10:33; Isa. 11:10; 32:18. After the Flood

  28. Basis of a new beginning Principle -Lam. 3:22-23 It is ofYahweh’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Roth.– “The lovingkindnesses of Yahweh, verily they are not exhausted, Verily! not at an end, are his compassions: New things for the mornings! Abundant is thy faithfulness.” After the Flood
