  3. Marketing of a Project Before talking to partners you should: • Situation Analysis and problem Definition • Assess the current situation • Know what your projects objectives are and what are the organizations priorities that you are approaching • Know your community statistics • Set Objectives • What do you expect from the partner • What do you think the partner will get from this partnership • Targeting the right audience • Community partners • Public partners • Picking the right marketing tools • Power point • Promotional sheet • Etc…

  4. Meeting organizations individually • Until trust is built….. go in pairs • Don’t be insulted if they refuse to communicate with you alone and ask for the organizations director • You are building a relationship as well as a partnership • Take promotional materials with you (i.e. fact sheet, action plan, etc…) • Take notes and send them to the organization….ask them for any changes to the minutes of something missed or misunderstood • Always ask if you can have a copy of their strategic plans, mission statements, clinical projects, etc… • Remember always be nice to the secretary as you will talk to her more than the director over the next four years!!!

  5. Group Dynamics Bring a group of partners together can be challenging because they all have their own separate goals, strategic plans, etc… and of course personalities • Recruiting a team- the task force, the maintenance crew, and hindrance behaviors • Find common goals or links within Strategic Plans • Define roles and responsibilities • You are not selling an object but rather an idea, perhaps an idea for change • Don’t be shy to show how enthusiastic you are about what you are trying to accomplish, Enthusiasm is contagious • When “selling/promoting” an idea (or anything for that matter), focus on the advantages for the “buyer”, rather than your own. Tell them what's in it for them • Perseverance is essential. Try and try again. Do not give up • A smile can do miracles Remember: You know your community best and when all else fails call in enforcements… We are a team
