FINDING COMMON GROUNDHelping Boards Create A Shared Vision Leadership WSSDA Group Project November 2013 Tom Albright, Janet Quinn & Paul Wagemann
Our Team’s Perspective Effectiveboards have a shared vision that includes perspectives of all board members.
A shared vision requires board members to: • clarify their individual vision, values and passion; • listen to and hear fellow board members to understand their vision, values and passion; • identify common ground and shared understanding.
Team’s Intent: • Provide atool which enhances a Board’s Self Evaluation Process • Help board members generate deep conversations leading to: • shared understanding • improve board working relationships • establish individual and collective board goals for improvement.
Agenda • Part One – Introduction of the tool • Part Two – Reflection and Discussion • Part Three – Sharing out • Part Four – Session Wrap-up
Introduction to using the evaluation tool. Reflecting on our unique boards: • One voice what does this mean? • Getting to shared understanding. • Generating deep conversation.
Introduction to using the evaluation tool continued. • Individual homework purpose and process • Group discussion purpose and process • Framework – how/when this tool might be used.
Reflection and Discussion • Desired Outcome: One collective goal your (fictitious) board can work on in the coming year.
Sharing out to larger group • Group Discussion
Session Wrap-up • Final thoughts on process, etc.
