‘Cribs for Kids®’ • Originated in Pittsburgh in Nov. 1998 through the combined efforts of DistrictAttorney Stephen Zappala, Mayor Bob O’Connor, Cmdr. Gwen Elliott, and Judy Bannon (SIDS of PA) • Steering committee consisting of public health, political and business leaders and child death review teamswas formed • Supplied Safe Sleep Education and the intervention of a crib to low income families
What we knew…. We knew! A non-profit organization could not exist without a clear sense of its mission, purpose and goals…..its vision!

To reduce infant deaths by providing an appropriate sleep environment through education and safe cribs BHAG* To reduce the number of infant deaths due to SIDS and/or accidental suffocation by 50% from 2005 to 2015 *Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal
