  45. Year 9 English A foundation for GCSE English Language and English Literature

  46. GCSE English Language and English Literature – what we know… Many changes to the English curriculum reported in the news over the last two years in particular Introduction of the new ‘Gove’ style exam Year 9 will be the first year group to take this new style GCSE examination in 2017 So, what does this mean for my child?

  47. GCSE English Examination in 2017 Key Changes The removal of coursework 100% examination No tiers (Foundation or Higher) Unseen passages to read (Pre 1914) Expected to be able to compare and make links with their own reading Students will be given a number (1-9 scale) Just 3% of GCSE papers will be awarded the prestigious Grade 9 (A*) Grade 1 will be aligned with current Grade G

  48. The Examination Boards All examination boards are now issuing draft specifications (Syllabus) They are designed to be taught from September 2015 The decision about the syllabus we will teach at Crestwood is under discussion with the English Department to ensure we get the specification that would best suit the needs of our students How will we prepare our students in year 9?

  49. Our Aim in English To create independent and resilient students who can tackle any text or task with confidence To explore a wide range of different texts from different genres and times To ensure students can express themselves concisely and accurately through well structured writing To employ sentence structure, punctuation and spelling accurately and for effect
