  6. Our sport team • In our Internet forum (www.forovegetariano.org) a group of people started to talk about the sport practices they were fond of, and the possibility of getting together at times. • A common feeling was the importance of letting people know about their vegetarianism: that they were proud of being vegetarian and also competting at sport events. • So it was proposed to launch an “official” sportive group of our vegetarian society. • Initially, we would only focus on two popular sports: running and cycling. • It was 2008. The team was to be started and managed by one of our members, Javier Apellániz.

  7. Our sport team • To start, it was not necessary to have any legal structure, nor work like sport clubs do. Just having an image and the intention of being “onboard”. • The main way of throwing a message would be to have our own equipment. • The equipment was designed and purchased from a technical garments retailer, Owayo. • Our society contributes 50 percent of the cost, the rest being payed by the sportsmen/ sportswomen. • Later on, it was proposed that, as all sport clubs do, the society payed for the registration fees of members participating at events (given some kind of proof). As of today, nobody has requested this reimbursement.
