Standards Alignment Where we’re at: Matrix – completed and approved Year 11: due for registration December 2010 Year 12: Consultation just completed, Standards due for final revision Registered December 2011? Year 13: Standards in draft form Consultation in 2011
Curriculum Guide First opportunity to examine what history looks like since the ‘H’ documents of early ‘80s Gives examples of how to develop approaches that reflect the vision and principles of the NZC Focus on learning that relates to students and community Specific requirement to address the AO’s in both the Guide and the Standards hence the focus on the phrase “of significance to New Zealanders” Address how the Key Competencies should be inform best practice in History teaching programmes Curriculum Guide
New Opportunities Build on the strengths our current approaches Develop and tailor programmes to suit the needs of our students – one history does not fit all!! Provides opportunities to involve and draw on the community both for support and as a resource Greater freedom to incorporate other approaches to teaching – group work, IT based learning, role-plays Interactive learning – becomes collaborative and reflective
