Pre-assessment targets • NHS QIS Standards (2007): • 80% patients to be offered telephone pre-assessment within 14 days of referral • The number of pre-assessments carried out from April 10 – Feb 11 = 2802 • Average of 64 patients/week • To meet increasing demand, number of sessions required is 9 sessions per week
Resources • 4 Nurse Endoscopists carry out telephone and face to face pre-assessments • Currently training additional nursing staff to improve waiting times and also to release nurse endoscopists for endoscopy sessions
Guidelines/Protocols • Currently use the pre-assessment tool devised by Tayside • The following protocols devised for bowel screening programme: • Anticoagulant PGD and Policy • Klean Prep PGD and Policy • Diabetes Policy
Issue • Patients with co-morbidities require medical input to carry out face to face assessment • Named consultant for medical input would improve the pre-assessment pathway • This could be incorporated into pre-assessment tool to give clear guidance for nursing staff. Discussion…..
