It will focus both your and the audience’s attention to the specifics of the writing. The thesis statement is your paper in a nutshell. A good thesis statement answers the “So What?” question.
Criteria for content of thesis statement • Who: the name of the person or What: the event you are writing about • A date…a time period…during the 1930’s. • Impact: How did this person or event change history? • An appositive or adjective clause (see sample) • The thesis statement will be a complex sentencewith prepositional phrases, and rich, descriptiveadjectives and adverbs that give degrees of meaning. • No to be verbs: was, were
