  2. Cornwall Public Library Established in1895 as a free public library. Currently governed by The Public Libraries Act, RSO, 1990. Moved to present location in 1996 with Federal, Provincial and Municipal funding.

  3. More than just books… The library today is a gathering place for: • Tutors and students, • Leisure clubs -Chess, Scrabble, Bridge, Stamp club • Cultural groups and events -writers group, book clubs, artists, films, author visits, etc. • Library Programs • Community meetings and programs

  4. Library Use in 2012 +1,000,000! Annual Circulation = 280,953 items borrowed

  5. Library Use Library Materials • 114,350 used in-house

  6. Library Use Library Visits • 228,400 visits in person. 24,150 questions asked and answered • children’s, teen’s and adult research questions, • reading suggestions, • technological help.

  7. Electronic Resources Library Website • 333,853 visits to website Library computers and wireless Internet • accessed 54,800 times Library Databases • accessed 4,800 times

  9. Library Programs 9,701 people attended 711 library programs • children’s programs • teen programs • adult education • partnership programs • seniors’ programs • arts programs • cultural events All of the Library’s programs are free of charge. • presenters donate their time and expertise.

  10. Youth and Children’s Programs Goal: Early Childhood Literacy. Offered in 7 or 8 week sessions. • Baby Tales (0-2yrs) • Bambins à la biblio (0-2 yrs) • Time for Twos • J’ai deux ans • Story time (3-5 yrs) • Heure du Conte (3-5 yrs) • Bilingual Family Story time

Survey HighlightsUser Satisfaction • 99% were satisfied with library services • 88% ranked the library as “ideal” or close to ideal • 11 % described it as “good”. • 96% were satisfied with the facility. • 91% found library staff friendly and helpful. • 87% believe the library is forward thinking and tries new things. • 65% believe that the library has improved in the last few years. • 34% believe that it is about the same.

Survey Highlights -Suggestions for Improvement 7% COMPUTERS/ INTERNET • More workstations, more updated equipment & programs, more computer classes, more time allowed. 6.8% LIBRARY SERVICES AND COLLECTIONS • No charge for nonresidents, reduced library fines, increased loan periods, more books, DVDs, CDs, eBooks. 5% PARKING • Better parking, free parking. 5% REFRESHMENTS • Vending machines, café,coffee etc. 11% OTHER (VARIOUS) • Better publicity, more visible in the community, more funding, more branches.

  22. Our Mission …To provide residents with excellent collections, spaces and experiences to support their reading, learning and leisure needs. The library is a leader in developing essential literacy skills and provides lifelong learning opportunities for all of its residents in a variety of contemporary physical and digital environments that are welcoming, dynamic and inclusive.

  23. Strategic Directions POSITION the Library as a key agency for Early Childhood Literacy and Lifelong Learning. ADVANCE the cultural initiatives of the City. EXTEND Library use by raising awareness of Library services. BUILD the Library’s capacity to realize its Vision.
