You are REQUIRED to go to tutoring if you have below a 77 in any class or below an 81 in an EOC course. Your teachers will tell you every week if you are required to go to tutoring and when the tutoring will be held. If you skip tutoring, you will have Friday Lunch Detention for the full 80 minute Power Block!
Non-Tutoring Options • Main and Auxiliary Gyms (only 50 students per gym – sign up early! FAQs 1. What is Trojan Power Block? Trojan Block is 80 minutes built into the daily schedule at HCHS that allows time for students to meet with teachers, attend tutoring sessions, complete assignments, work on projects, participate in intramurals, meet with guidance counselors, use computers, research and read in the Media Center, attend club meetings, eat lunch and socialize. 2. Does everyone eat lunch the whole time? No. Students get 40 minutes for lunch. Students will be assigned lunch A or lunch B. 3. When do I go to lunch? Students with last names beginning with A-L eat from 11:40 to 12:20 A lunch. Students with last names beginning with M-Z eat from 12:25 to 1:05 B lunch. 4. Can I just hang out in the gym? No. Students who sign up for intramurals are expected to participate. No spectators will be allowed in the gym during this time. 5. Where can I eat lunch? Students may eat their lunch in the cafeteria, commons, patio, and teacher classrooms. Students may not eat lunch in the hallways or unsupervised areas. Garbage cans will be provided in all locations, and students are responsible for cleaning up all trash. 6. May I leave campus to eat lunch? No. Harnett County Board of Education policy prohibits off-campus lunch. 7. Can I stay in the lunch area the entire block? No. You may be in the cafeteria, commons, or patio during your designated lunch. These areas will be completely cleared of students between lunches. 8. Can I just hang out with my friends the entire block? Yes. If you are not required to attend tutoring and are in appropriately designated spaces. 9. Can I stay in the gym for intramurals the entire block? To give everyone an opportunity to participate, students may attend intramurals for only one of two sessions offered per day. If I want to hang out or go to the gym for the entire Trojan Power Block, can’t I just get extra help/make-up a test after school? No. One of the many purposes of Trojan Power Block is to allow time for extra help and make-up work during the school day. 12. Can I visit my teachers even if it is not their Tutorial day? You must ask the teacher. The teacher may have supervision or a department meeting that day.
FAQs 13. Can I eat lunch in a teacher’s classroom? Yes. With the teacher’s permission. 14. Can I take a cafeteria tray to a teacher’s classroom? Yes. However, you may not consume any food on the way to the teacher’s classroom. It is your responsibility to dispose of all garbage. 15. Can I eat lunch in a hallway? You may not eat lunch in the hallways. There are many places to eat around the building. (cafeteria, commons, patio, teacher classrooms), but the hallways are off-limits.
FAQs 16. Can I see a Guidance Counselor during the Trojan Power Block? Yes. You should check with your counselor to see what day and time they have supervision, meetings, or are running workshops. Guidance will be available to the student body during Trojan Power lunch on designated days. 17. What types of activities will take place during Trojan Power Block? During Trojan Power block you may attend tutorials (mandatory or voluntary), intramurals, club meetings, and guidance meetings. You may do work in the Media Center or in computer labs. You may also prepare for classes, do homework, and form study groups. Special guidance sessions and other activities will be announced and may require sign-up.
FAQs 18. Can I go to the Media Center and read the whole time? Yes. However, you are not allowed to eat or drink in the Media Center. Please eat in a designated area during your assigned lunch. 19. Can I use the computer lab during Trojan Power block? Yes. If computer needs by students are high, you may only be able to use the computer for one session on any given day. Remember to eat lunch at your designated time, and no food or drink is allowed in the computer labs.
FAQs 20. Can I make up an absence during Trojan Power block? Yes. Attending 2 tutorials will equal making up one absence. We will NOT offer Saturday make-up days during the year. All time will be made up in Trojan Power Block. Students will be allowed to make up no more than 8 days per class. This means that students must attend 16 tutorials in a class/course in order to recover 8 class days of absences.
FAQs 21. Can I “stock up” absences? No. 22. Can my parents sign me out for an appointment? We discourage any appointments during Trojan Power Block because this is such a vital part of your school day. If you must schedule an appointment during Trojan Power Block, you are required to submit a doctor’s note upon returning to school. This absence will be unexcused without a doctor’s note. It is your responsibility to communicate to your parents where you will be on the day that you are to be picked up. If you do not communicate this with your parents, they may be required to wait until Trojan Power Block is over before you are located.
FAQs 23. What if I do not attend or skip mandatory tutoring? You will be assigned lunch detention on Friday for 80 minutes. 24. How do I know which days of the week I have tutoring? An announcement will be made daily for which tutoring sessions will be held. A schedule will also be posted on the school’s webpage and on posters throughout the building. 25. Can students use cell phones / electronics during Power Block? No. Cell phones / electronics are not allowed to be used on campus during the school day.
FAQs 26. Can I change out if I go to the gym to play? No. The locker rooms will not be open during Power Block. 27. What happens if rules are broken?Trojan Power Block will become a thing of the past. The administration reserves the right to revoke Power Block and return to the standard schedule of 25 minute lunches instead.
