  2. Verb Tenses • A verb tense is a form of a verb that shows the time of an action or a condition. • Each tense has a basic and progressive form. • The six tenses are: • Present • Past • Future • Present perfect • Past perfect • Future perfect

  3. Past Tense • Shows that an action has already been carried out. • Ex. • I worked. • I was working.

  4. Present Tense • Shows that an action is in the process of being carried out. • Ex. • I work. • I am working.

  5. Future Tense • Shows that an action will be carried out. • Ex. • I will work. • I will be working.

  6. Present Perfect • Shows that an action was started in the past but is not yet completed. • I have worked. • I have been working.

  7. Past Perfect • Shows that an action occurred in the past and is now completed. • I had worked. • I had been working.

  8. Future Perfect • Shows that an unfinished action is about to occur. • I will have worked. • I will have been working.

  9. Principle Parts • Most verbs also have four important parts that are used often. They are: • Present • Present Participle • Past • Past Participle
