Locating Graphics for Photo Story • Be creative and take your own photographs and movie clips • Always gain permission when using other people’s pictures or graphics • Common file types are .jpg, .jpeg, gif • Look for free graphic websites like www.creativecommons.org
Before you begin, please consider the picture… • Represents the text or audio that will be included with it • Is suitable and appropriate for the audience • Pleasing to view and not distractible • Easy to view in darker or lighter areas • Stays within a consistent color palette used throughout the program
Let’s Begin • A good idea is to store all your photos that you will use inside a separate folder on your computer’s desktop • Open Photo Story
Step One: Click to Import Pictures. This is naturally the first step to do when creating a Photo Story! Locate the folder where you keep the photos for your story! Step One: Importing Pictures
Double click the picture you want to insert. You will need to put each picture in one by one OR You can hold the control button on your keyboard and click each picture you want to add and then click open. This will insert multiple photos at once. Step two inserting pictures
You should now see your pictures as thumbnails in the bottom. These pictures can be dragged and dropped into a different order at anytime during the story making process! What you see!
Now your are ready to modify your pictures. The picture you are working with will be displayed like this picture. Quick choices are located to the left of the “edit” button. While these are handy, most pictures will require more work. Click the “Edit” button. Working with Photos
The Rotate and Crop Tab: Allows you to rotate or flip the picture at 90 degree angles The crop will allow you to select certain portions of pictures Remember to click save after every change Tab one: Rotate and Crop
The Auto Fix Tab: Works with lighting on the picture Most often used will be the “Correct Red Eye” feature that automatically takes out red eye in pictures Remember to click save after changes Auto Fix Tab
Add Effect Tab: The most advanced editing on Photo Story Try different effects Stay minimal on effects and look for consistency through the whole program For stories with a lot of text, use the “Washout” feature that mutes the pictures to make text more viewable Add Effects Tab
To change multiple photos: Check the “apply the selected effect to all pictures in your story” to have an effect be applied to all subsequent photos Especially helpful when trying to make a consistent appearance. The example would be the “Washout” effect Changing Multiple Photos
Remember to save all your work when editing! Save your work!
Adding Text to Photos Hit “next” after editing your photo Type the text you want in the box Font types, colors and sizes using the buttons seen on the right Text placement can also be centered, placed at the top or placed at the bottom Adding Text
For Advanced Graphic Users • To make more effects on graphics, try a free program like Gimp to modify before using Photo Story • Create simple background graphics in a photo program to create blank canvases for title or subtitle slides • Keep file sizes to a minimum
