Tips • Print • Use a pen • Be neat • Answer every question. Put n/a if it is not applicable • Don’t give an expected salary. Write “open”. • Be accurate • Have a good reason for leaving your jobs • Get permission from people you will use as references • Be honest • Sign and date application
Illegal Information to ignore on a job application • Height, weight • Age, sex • Marital status • Size of your family • Religion, politics • Birthplace • Race or national origin • Handicaps • Arrests or convictions • Military discharge
Exceptions • An employer may ask you an off-limits question if that topic has to do with your ability to do the job. • Lifting requirements: physical handicaps can be asked about
Assignment #1 • Fill out job application on pages 38-39 in Job Hunter’s Handbook. • Check off your work with WBL Teacher.
Assignment #2 • Go to http://jobs.utah.gov/selfservice • Click on “Job seeker Log-in” • Click on “Sign up here” • You will see a “user agreement”. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click “agree”. • Now you will see an initial registration form. Fill it out.
