  2. Beef Cattle • Beef cattle are cattle that are raised on a farm for the purpose of being slaughtered for food. • There are many kinds of beef cattle, the most common being the Short horned cattle

  3. Dairy Cattle • Dairy cattle are different from beef cattle. Dairy cattle are solely raised to produce milk • The most common breed found in the United States is the Holstein cow. • These cows are only female and in present day, hooked up to a machine that suctions the milk from their utters

  4. Swine • Swine, or pigs are a very important animal when it comes to livestock • Pigs are raised for the purpose of slaughter. • There are two kinds of pigs: Brood pigs which are used for mating and slaughter pigs, which are used in slaughter. • A popular breed for slaughter is the American Yorkshire

  5. Poultry for slaughter • Poultry, or Chickens are widely known for their high protein content. • Only Hens, female chickens are used for slaughter, because rooster meat is too tough. • The most common slaughter breed is the Cornish chicken

  6. Poultry for eggs • Not all hens are able to be used as a source of meat. These hens are given the job of egg laying • There are many different kinds of chickens used to lay eggs and many different colors of eggs. The kind sold in stores are laid by Rhode Island Reds.
