What should we be doing? Monthly • RESIZE.FILES • “The IBM/UniData RDBMS does not abort if a file is created too small to hold all the data necessary. However, if a file is too small or too large, degradation of response time takes place. Therefore it is to the user's advantage to make the sizes of the files as close as possible to the actual size needed”
What should we be doing? Monthly • Database Audits • DB.AUDIT.ALL Runs the following audits: • DB.AUDIT.AP - Verify the AP and VEN files are in balance • DB.AUDIT.AR - Check chain linkages and balances in accounts receivable (AR) files • DB.AUDIT.IM - Cross check IM and IPL files • DB.AUDIT.IT - Inventory transaction file detail integrity check • DB.AUDIT.LOT - Audit lot tracing (LOT) data for errors • DB.AUDIT.MTO - Integration integrity check of material transfer items • DB.AUDIT.PLO - Integration and sync check of PLO, IPL order files • DB.AUDIT.PUR - Integration integrity check of POH, POD, IPL files • DB.AUDIT.SOP - Audit sales order processing (SOP) files for database errors • DB.AUDIT.WP - Integrity check of WP, WP.GROUP, PL, IPL files • DB.AUDIT.WPO - Integrity check of WP operations with WC files • DB.AUDIT.SA - Audit sales analysis (SA) file database errors (report only - NO update option)
What should we be doing? Monthly • Reboot. • Mr Hazelton will tell you that both NT and UNIX boxes should be rebooted once a month.
What should we be doing? Monthly • SPE – Its getting slow. • Purge old SPE jobs. The size of the list is directly related to how fast SPE opens. • Monthly Backup Set – You never know when someone will want ‘data as of the end of the month’
Disaster Recovery Kit – What goes in the bag? • OS Install Media • Your OS (Windows/UNIX) • Your Backup Software • Manage-2000 Install Media • UniData • Manage-2000 • Redback • A2K • Hardware Recovery CD • Server Drivers. • If you download “updates” you may consider burning these to a CD also.
Disaster Recovery Kit – What goes in the bag? • Documentation • Auth Codes • CD Keys • Serial Numbers • Phone Numbers / Contacts • Your not going to have access to your server. Put this information in your kit. • Backup Tapes, or information on how / where to get your backup tapes. Ideally if your storing your tapes at the Bank, a copy of your Kit should be located there also.
