  1. Manage-2000 7.1 Upgrade The Real Story

  2. Manage-2000 7.1 Upgrade – The Real StoryCost • Epicor Services and Cost • Your “Upgrade” is free. All you have to do is install it, or have someone install it. • Epicor offers a “flat fee” upgrade based on how many “.MAIN” accounts you have. This “flat fee” would not include custom code. - $8000 for 1st .MAIN, and then $225 / hour for additional.

  3. Manage-2000 7.1 Upgrade – The Real StoryCost • Duel Release or Development Server • If UNIX – Duel Release if your current release is compatible. (Meaning HP/UX 11) If your not current you have options: • Upgrade your current Manage-2000 to HP/UX 11 • Buy a new server for cutover testing • If NT/2000 – Development Server • Hardware - $1,000-2000 and UP • Windows - $700 • Manage-2000 Licenses. (For example buy more, or move unused.) Again, your CAM can give you specific samples of your costs. – Enterprise Seat: $2,900 • Manage-2000 “Disaster Recovery License” Enterprise - $1,700 • If you do not add licenses, you will need to move them from your production server. (Know how many you have, and how many you need)

  4. Manage-2000 7.1 Upgrade – The Real StoryCost • Custom Code • A custom code audit can reveal how much custom code you currently have. For an actual upgrade this is required. • Consider removing all custom code, and re-justifying the need for it thru testing. Re-custom as justified. • Custom code can become the most expensive component of your upgrade very easily. • Custom code is billed BY THE HOUR. • Epicor now offers support for custom code. Meaning you get it as part of your upgrade. The cost for this is 20% of the custom code cost.

  5. Manage-2000 7.1 Upgrade – The Real StoryCost • New Requirements (Depending on your current release) • Redback (Some on 7.0 have it, Nobody on 6.x does) • Required to serve up “Portals” • LOOK.SO, LOOK.PO, ACTIVITY, STOCK, Etc etc etc • A Redback Responder consumes a UniData and Manage-2000 license. - $4,500 • Each .MAIN or .TRAIN account needs its own responder. • Each Account can also have multiple responders depending on your load. • The “Official” number is 1 responder for every 10 users. • Brinly is using 1 responder for 40 users.

  6. Manage-2000 7.1 Upgrade – The Real StoryCost • New Requirements (Depending on your current release) • A Web Server - $1000-$2000 and up plus $700 for Windows. • Required to serve up “Portals” • Must be Windows 2000 or 2003 Server. (No matter what your Data server is running. For example, UNIX still needs a Windows web server.) • Should have loads of RAM. (read: cram as much RAM in there as your budget can afford) • Should not be on the same server as the Database Server. • Can host multiple .MAIN and .TRAIN accounts on 1 host.

  7. Manage-2000 7.1 Upgrade – The Real StoryCost • New Requirements (Depending on your current release) • Visual Studio .NET - $645 • Required if you want to change things in the Portals • Infragistics - $495 • Also Required if you want to change things in the Portals. • Provides many UI elements in portals. • Menus, Buttons, etc etc.

  8. Manage-2000 7.1 Upgrade – The Real StoryCost • New Requirements (Depending on your current release) • Enterprise License • Allows you to use Manage-2000 in a device mode instead of a session mode. • Each device can use up to 10 sessions using 1 seat or license. • PWS • Delphi • EpiEdit • Keep in mind that the Portals are driven thru Redback and it consumes its own seat as outlined before. (20 users in a portal are still 1 seat)

  9. Manage-2000 7.1 Upgrade – The Real StoryBenefits • Portals – Information is linked. • Less Delphi – Mostly only .CONSTANTS now. • Propaganda: • A2K - $15,000 • Clientele • Optio - $10,400 • FEATURE.SUMMARY Review. • fs_7_1.pdf

  10. Manage-2000 7.1 Upgrade • Break Time

  11. Manage-2000 7.1 Upgrade – Unix vs NT • UNIX Benefits • Configuration is more flexible. • One host can run multiple versions of Manage-2000 • System scales up easier (100+ users) • More acceptable to open source.

  12. Manage-2000 7.1 Upgrade – Unix vs NT • UNIX Cons • System hardware is more costly. • Requires another level of knowledge (UNIX) • Does not integrate easily into Windows environment.

  13. Manage-2000 7.1 Upgrade – Unix vs NT • Windows Benefits • Configuration is easier. • Mostly point and click. • Management is easier. • Integrates into existing windows network easily. • Hardware is cheap, and can use standard PC components.

  14. Manage-2000 7.1 Upgrade – Unix vs NT • Windows Cons • Windows does not offer some of the same level of “detail” as a UNIX host does. • Windows does not scale well on very high user count sites. • There are more windows hackers than unix hackers.
