1. YR9 GCSE ART A4 Sketch book recommended: available from the Art department for a small cost before the end of term, whilst stocks last. Otherwise a reasonable paper quality sketchbook can be purchased from stationers / art shops like hobby craft for around £6, alternatively the first result for “A4 sketchbook” on amazon is an £5.55 150gsm book which would also be suitable. Welcome to ADT and your skill building year… • Congratulations on getting a place on our new 3 year GCSE Art course. • This year will provide the solid practical and thinking skills you will require to succeed. We are not looking for fully formed artists, and we do not expect you to achieve a perfect result every time: what we look for are earnest students who want to learn and improve their skills to GCSE standard and beyond! • Let us make it all about you (well, mostly)- The most successful Art students find ways to use their personalities and interests in their artwork. • This is the real thing- No messing about here, from the first lesson forward you have started gaining vital experience for the course. Make the most of it from day one. • No half measures. We commit to giving you a professional program with highly skilled practitioners and you commit to taking part, getting involved and trusting in our advice and tutoring. 2. “CHOOSE” I.S TERMS 3+4 The rules: There are 12 tasks: you can choose any 6 to complete. ‘CHOOSE’ Independent studies will be handed in once every two weeks for terms 3 + 4, YOU choose the I.S task you complete for each hand in. ALL work must be documented in a sketch book or on A4 paper in your folder, even if the end product exists outside it. YOU MAY NOT CHOOSE MORE THAN 2 TASKS IN EACH CATEGORY. YOU MUST CHOOSE AT LEAST 1 TASK FROM EACH CATEGORY. COLLECT Save and present chocolate and sweet wrappers in a full page collage. WRITE Use the How/What/Why guide sheet to analyse a Picasso painting. MAKE A Landscape painting or a city scape pen drawing, observe from real life and take a photo of what you draw RESEARCH Surrealism • “DRAW” I.S TERMS 1+2 • All drawing tasks should follow the “draw a still Life” Guide provided with this sheet and available on the schools website in PDF and Power point format. • ‘DRAW’ Independent studies will be handed in once every week for the first ten weeks of the course (all of term 1 and into term 2) • All drawings should take at least 40mins of focused work.,. • A PDF of example drawing tasks can be found on the school website. • All tasks will be talked through before being set, with examples shown. • Unless otherwise stated in the task description below all drawings should be pencil drawn AND shading attempted • Objects for the drawing tasks are available in school if you don’t have them to hand at home. • 1. Your pencil case, with its contents spilling out onto a surface. • 2. A stack of DVDs/books/magazines. • 3. A collection of at least 4 bathroom objects. • 4. A collection of at least 3 Bottles and cans (any combination). • 5. An opened chocolate bar with a bite taken out. • 6. A small plastic toy. • 7. A set of keys. • 8. Two remote controls of any variety (TV, Hi-Fi, gamepad). • 9. Three items of jewellery. • 10. A Pair of shoes. COLLECT Create a mood board to express yourself with images from magazines and the internet (see art staff if you require materials/printing). WRITE Use the How/What/Why guide sheet to analyse a Monet painting. MAKE A model of something, out of anything you like. DOCUMENT IT. RESEARCH Guernica COLLECT Collect leaflets fliers and newspapers and create a motto for life from words and letters you cut out. WRITE Use the How/What/Why guide sheet to analyse a John Piper painting. MAKE Carve a geometric design into a potato and print it in paint. RESEARCH Pop art. “PERSONAL PROJECT” I.S TERMS 5+6 During term 5 you will begin a personal project, your teacher will set you individual tasks to progress this project which can be spread over class time and I.S as you wish. Book / Folder reviews will take place once a week.
