Update: The Georgia Vision Project Steering Committee Meeting Savannah, GA June 13, 2014
AGENDA: • “Spark!” campaign update and next steps. • Georgia State University Evaluation Project. • New Partners. • Strategies for Engaging Pre-Service and In-Service Teachers with the Vision Project. • Plans for a Sustainable Funding Model for the “Spark!” Campaign.
1. “SPARK!” CAMPAIGN UPDATE/NEXT STEPS • We have a proposed campaign plan, budget and timeline for the Spark Campaign. • Projected rollout scheduled to coincide with the beginning of the new school year in August. • A“pay as you go” plan and budget • greater web/social network presence, TV spots, interviews and video, billboards, and community meetings. • Thanks to Justin Pauly, Bridgett Johnson, Hope-Beckham and the UGA’s Grady College of Journalism for their work on this.
2. GSU EVALUATION PROJECT • Signed letter of agreement from GSU to conduct an evaluation of the Vision Project’s impact in local school systems. • 11 districts have been selected as sites for case studies. These districts represent a cross-section of our state’s school systems. • GSU has committed the time and resources of two cohorts of Ed.D. candidates. • Includes an updating of the research, references and recommendations found in the current “A Vision for Public Education: Equity and Excellence” document. • GSU’s Dr. Jami R. Berry is our contact for this project.
3. PARTNERS • We now have 31 partners. • A Partner Agreement will be sent to all by June 30. This agreement will provide our partners with a menu of ways they can support the GA Vision Project. • Financial support, communication partnerships, space for the VP in their newsletters, etc. are a few of the options on the menu. • Goal is to coordinate a clear, concise and compelling message about our public schools.
4. ENGAGING EDUCATORS • PAGE is one of our current partners. • Pursuing a partnership with Georgia’s Colleges of Education. • Focus is on senior education majors • their awareness of the Vision Project and Spark Campaign, and • their importance in the future of our public schools. • The GA Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (GACTE) and their national affiliate AACTE have shown great enthusiasm for this new partnership.
5. A SUSTAINABLE FUNDING MODEL FOR “SPARK!” • Balance between voluntary contributions • a) partners • b) private sector companies • c) individual contributions • d) philanthropic/foundation contributions • Uruut.com - on-line donations to the Spark! Campaign. • soliciting • collecting • tracking • Some partners have already made a commitment to get us rolling in June and early July.
