  6. H.E.R.O. • Patrol 31 routes on 310 miles of metro interstates daily • Managed in excess of one million incidents since launch • Trained as first responders- 360 hours in class- 200 hours on the road • Trucks carry medical bags, jumper cables, tire jacks and can tow up to 80,000 lbs

  7. HERO ALADS system Automatic Location and Dispatch System HEROs and TMC Operators can exchange incident data directly through the system without the need for voice communications

  21. Variable Speed Limits • “Top End” of I-285 • Design/Build approach • Includes raising “default” speed limit to 65 mph • Will use existing detection • Designed to “harmonize” the flow of traffic • Increase throughput • Reduce crashes

  22. Cameras at Every Interchange • “Atlanta” model for ITS does not make sense for rest of state. • New technologies are making wireless video easier and cheaper • Start in cities (Columbus, Augusta and Savannah) • Expand statewide on all limited-access roadways

  24. North West Corridor • Two reversible managed lanes on I-75 from I-285 to I-575 split • One reversible managed lane on I-75 from split to Hickory Grove Road • One reversible managed lane on I-575 from split to Sixes Road • Separate entrance / exit ramps • Gates Controlled from TMC
