  2. History of Irish Dance • Although the history of Irish dance is vague, evidence points to the ancient Druids (Priests) as using dance in religious ceremonies to honour the Oak tree and the Sun around 300 BC.

  3. Types of Irish Dance Ceili Dances - were originally danced at house dances and involve multiple participants. Set Dances - are danced in square formations. Irish Sean-nos Dance - are highly improvisational dances

  4. Irish Dance Costumes • Irish dance costumes today are a reflection of the clothing worn during the 8th century. • The dresses of women dancers are copies of traditional Irish peasant dress and can often be seen adorned with hand embroidered Celtic designs.
