Benjamin Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra (Opening presentation/variation of the theme) The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra was composed in 1946. Its theme was originally written by another English composer, Henry Purcell, in the 17th century. This piece and its narration were written to teach students about the different instruments of the orchestra.
