Measurement…I thought we were done with that  • Get yourself a tissue and pay attention. • First off, we learned how to convert measurement. • Second, some of the questions on the PSSA will ask you to add or subtract measurement. • What we will do today is to add and subtraction measurement. • Psss…you’re going to need your Formula Sheet (aka BFF) to get the conversions

  3. Adding Measurement • Example: 4 ft 7 in + 9 ft 6 in • First, we want to write vertically 4 ft 7 in + 9 ft 6 in 13 ft 13 in Can we have 13 inches? • So we need to change 13 inches. • 13 inches = 1 ft 1 in • 13 ft + 1 ft 1 in 14 ft 1 in

  4. You try • 12 lb 8 oz + 9 lb 11 oz • 12 lb 8 oz • + 9 lb 11 oz • 21 lb 19 oz • 19 oz = 1 lb 3 oz • 21 lb • + 1 lb 3 oz • 22 lb 3 oz

  5. Subtracting Measurement • Example: 9 ft 4 in – 3 ft 9 in • First, we want to write vertically • 9 ft 4 in • - 3 ft 9 in What can we do? • 5 ft 7 in 16 We move one foot which is 12 inches over with the 4 inches 8

  6. You try • Example: 27 lb 7 oz – 19 lb 12 oz • 27 lb 7 oz • - 19 lb 12 oz • 7 lb 11 oz 26 23 We move one pound which is 16 ounces over with the 7 ounces
