Adding Measurement • Example: 4 ft 7 in + 9 ft 6 in • First, we want to write vertically 4 ft 7 in + 9 ft 6 in 13 ft 13 in Can we have 13 inches? • So we need to change 13 inches. • 13 inches = 1 ft 1 in • 13 ft + 1 ft 1 in 14 ft 1 in

Subtracting Measurement • Example: 9 ft 4 in – 3 ft 9 in • First, we want to write vertically • 9 ft 4 in • - 3 ft 9 in What can we do? • 5 ft 7 in 16 We move one foot which is 12 inches over with the 4 inches 8
