Wimba? • What is it? • Wimba is a “Live Classroom” within Blackboard that allows the instructor and students to hold “virtual” classes • Who can access? • Any enrolled student that is listed in that Blackboard course can access
Getting Started • What do I do first? • Log into Blackboard • Access your class • Two ways to access Wimba • Click Communication then click Live Classrooms; or • Click WimbaLive shortcut button
Entering Room • Click the room listed (named by your instructor) under the title section to enter
What to do now? • The first time you use Wimba you want to go through the Setup Wizard • The wizard will test your computer to ensure that you can access all the features of a “live classroom” • To begin, click on “Setup Wizard”
Wizard Steps • The Setup Wizard will go through a number of tests to ensure your computer is ready • After each test is completed successfully a check mark will be placed next in the applicable box • To begin the Wizard, click on the Start button at the bottom right hand corner of the screen
Decisions, decisions? • Pop-ups • You must disable the Internet pop-up blocker • Select to “allow pop-ups” option when prompted • If you still receive an error message, retry the test while holding down the CTRL key • Signed Applet • “Allow always” to allow “Live Classroom Audio” • Playback and Recording • You will headset with a microphone • Quicktime • You must have Quicktime (version 7.1.3) installed (free download) Make sure that you read and follow the instructions listed for that specific test!
Signed Applet • When you click “next” you will receive a “warning – security” popup. • Click option to allow • Click Next
Audio Playback • You will need headphones or speakers connected to your computer • Once audio player is loaded a greeting will play, if you hear the greeting, click Next • If you do not hear the greeting click the “Troubleshoot” hyperlink
Audio Recording • You will need headphones or speakers connected to your computer • After you hear a set of tones, hold down the “Talk” button and speak into your microphone. You should hear your voice played back (there will be a few seconds delay between when you speak and when you hear yourself • If you do not hear the greeting click the “Troubleshoot ..” hyperlink
QuickTime • You will need headphones or speakers connected to your computer • QuickTime player will play music and a short animation will appear at the bottom of the page. • This may take a few seconds to load so be a little patient • Click Next • If you do not hear the greeting click the “Troubleshoot” hyperlink
Congratulations! • Successfully completed! Click Finished • You do not need to run the Wizard again unless: • You are using a different computer or • Other people use the computer or • You install new applications that may affect your current settings • You are ready to Enter your class!
Enter Room • Select Enter Room • You will connect to your classroom • The next slide will give you a brief overview of the options
