Interesting Company Metrics In Five Years of Operations we have been able to retain 100% of our workforce!
Diversity Training @DevFacto We do not do any diversity Training at DevFacto.
Diversity Training @DevFacto Most Companies do Diversity Training for two reasons: • Prevent Lawsuits • Create an inclusive environment in which each member of the community is valued, respected, and can fully contribute their talents
Diversity Training @DevFacto Diversity Training usually falls into two categories: • Let your employees know what they can and cannot say • Bring people into a room and ask them to separate into categories (Gender, Age, Ethnicity) and then share about themselves to educate others
Diversity Training @DevFacto A study by Harvard University of 829 companies over 31 years showed that diversity training had "no positive effects in the average workplace." Millions of dollars a year were spent on the training resulting in, well, nothing. Attitudes and the diversity of the organizations remained the same.
Diversity Training @DevFacto When you divide people into categories to illustrate the idea of diversity, you reinforce the problem – categories Categories are dehumanizing
Diversity Training @DevFacto I want people to see me as Chris, not as a Cuban Heterosexual White Male I always tell people that I’m not part of a minority, As a human being I’m actually part of the majority!
Diversity Training @DevFacto I’m an individual who likes to: Play sports Help Others Play the Guitar Hike Fine Dining Travel Movies Kayak
Diversity Training @DevFacto The previous slide reads like a profile in eHarmony The Point is that I’m much more than the categories that define me.
Diversity Training @DevFacto How do we embrace diversity at DevFacto? Train our consultants on how to work with Individuals not categories. Train our consultants on how to work with their team members, direct reports, etc. We have moved beyond similarity and diversity to individuality.
Diversity Training @DevFacto Category Individual
H/R @DevFacto We do not have an H/R department at DevFacto.
H/R @DevFacto We have a culture director (David Cronin, my business partner and co-founder of DevFacto Technologies) We are currently establishing a culture committee that is elected yearly
H/R @DevFacto We are in the process of creating a culture P&L that will be as important as the financial P&L We do not have policies, instead we deal with issues as they occur and avoid making an exception the rule
H/R @DevFacto For example: One of our employees started to arrive to the office between 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM on a regular basis. One of our employees was spending too much time on Facebook during work hours.
In Summary Embracing Diversity and Culture at DevFacto has allowed us to: • Retain 100% of our workforce for the last five years • Facilitate our recruiting to the point that: • We do not have to use a recruiting agency • We have a backlog of IT specialists waiting for positions to open to work for us
