  1. State School Spectacular 2011

  2. 2011 performance • WHERE • Hisense Arena, Melbourne • WHEN • Sunday 18 September • TIMES • 11.00am and 5.00pm

  3. What is it? • The Victorian State Schools Spectacular is one of the largest recurring performances in Australia. It is a professionally staged production performed at Melbourne Park to an audience of over 10,000 people. • The Spectacular includes a cast of some 2,500 government school students, working towards a common goal in a collaborative, competition-free environment. • Its dual aim is to provide an invaluable performing arts opportunity to Victoria’s government school students and to showcase the enormous talent that exists in our schools. This is manifested in a 2-3 hour scripted show that celebrates a diversity of performance mediums, including choir, dance, vocal, drama and orchestra.

  4. Wodonga PS and WMYC • Both schools have a dance troupe of 20 students • Rehearsals will be held at WMYC instead of Melbourne due to both schools being involved • Able to reduce costs through the sharing of buses and accommodation.

  5. Rehearsals • May 13th to be held at WMYC. Students will be introduced to their dances as well as the finale dance • Further rehearsals – 20th July, 30th August • Teacher support at rehearsals will be: Cassie Knight (WPS) and Tanya Harvey (WMYC)

  6. Costumes • Costumes are provided – we have already submitted measurements of students • Some small alterations/additions may be required • Included in the cost will be a SSS t-shirt which will be a souvenir of the event

  7. Melbourne • All students will leave Wodonga early on the morning of Friday 16th (approx 5.30pm – to be confirmed) • Full day rehearsal – Friday 16th Sept • Full day rehearsal – Saturday 17th Sept • Performances x 2 – Sunday 18th Sept • Return by bus to Wodonga late on Sunday

  8. Accommodation and Travel • Both WPS and WMYC will be travelling on the same bus with school staff. • Both WPS and WMYC students will be staying in the same accommodation (YHA Melbourne Metro) • Students will be bussed to and from the YHA to the Hisense Arena.

  9. Food • Students will need to bring a lunch and snack on Friday 16th • Dinner will be provided at the YHA on Friday and Saturday night and on the road on Sunday night • Breakfast will be provided at the YHA on Saturday and Sunday morning • Lunch packs will be provided to students on Saturday and Sunday • All students should bring along a small container of slice to be shared as a snack and supper

  10. Watching the performance • It is best to purchase tickets once positioning on the arena is determined – this way parents can ensure that they will be able to see their performer! • Families are responsible for arranging their own performance tickets. • Schools will inform students once ticket sales have commenced.

  11. Cost • Total cost for each student participating will be $270
