  1. ARE YOU PREPARED FOR CONTINUING COMPETENCY IN INDIANA? • INAPTA is dedicated to helping all PT’s and PTA’s understand what is now required of them prior to the license renewal process in 2014

  2. Where can you find the new Continuing Competency Rule? • The rule is posted on the INAPTA.ORG home page under the Education tab and also under the Resource tab • The rule looks complicated but we will try to help simplify the requirements as much as possible

  3. How many hours of ContinuingCompetency Hours will you need to renew? • Since there is not a full two years before the 2014 renewal, you will only need 12 hours, of which two of those hours must be in Ethics and Indiana Jurisprudence. Activities taken after February 27, 2013 will count toward the 2014 renewal • All other biennial renewal periods will require 22 hours, of which two of those must be in Ethics and Indiana Jurisprudence

  4. What exactly is a ContinuingCompetency Hour? • “Contact hour” means a unit of measure for a continuing competency activity • One contact hour equals at least fifty minutes in a learning activity • Most courses will provide you with the number of hours for which they are approved

  5. What type of ContinuingCompetency activities will count toward your renewal? • These are listed in the rule under section 844 IAC 6-8-4 and are divided into two types, Category 1 and Category 2 • For more detailed information on these activities please refer to the complete rule

  10. How many hours can within each category can you obtain? • At least 10 hours must be in Category 1 courses • Mandatory 2 hours from Ethics and Indiana Jurisprudence • For the renewal in 2014 there is no specification regarding number of hours from Category 1 or 2, just that 12 hours are required and two of those in Ethics and Indiana Jurisprudence

  11. How will you know if your activity is an “Approved Activity”? • For the 2014 renewal, only activities taken after February 27, 2013will be counted • All activities approved by INAPTA, APTA, or any components of APTA (Chapters and Sections) will count toward your renewal process • Other approving bodies are listed in the rule under section 844 IAC 6-8-5

  12. Where can you take an Ethics and Indiana Jurisprudence Course? • INAPTA will be providing an online Ethics and Indiana Jurisprudence course which will meet the 2 hour requirement for renewal • Look for information on the course on INAPTA.ORG after April 30th

  13. What are your responsibilities? • At the time of renewal you will have to checkmark a box on the form if you completed your Continuing Competency activities • You must retain verification of completion of continuing competency activities for three years after the last renewal date

  14. What are your responsibilities? • If audited by the PT Committee, you will need to present proof of completion of Continuing Competency activities required by the rule at the request of the Committee • You will need to keep track of your activities in your own file or using an online tool
