In many different applications magnets are used, given their inherent strength in relation to mass and weight. Electromagnets are used in powerful pieces of equipment and vehicles, such as trains, magnetic-levitation, or maglev because they can be turned off and on. Permanent magnets are very versatile and strong components of myriad applications. Different Types of Permanent Magnet Applications To categorize magnets scientists use four basic ways, based on how their magnetic force is used. Along with permanent magnet examples we list the categories below.
The magnet’s attraction or repelling force: These applications are the simplest use of magnets or Magnetic Filter Rod. A perfect example is of a simple refrigerator magnet —what attracts to a metal refrigerator door is a picture or slogan on a small piece of laminated cardboard with a small bar magnet glued to the back. This magnet is capable of converting electric force into mechanical force. To convert electric energy into mechanical force electric motors are good examples of using magnets. For electric motors electromagnets are more commonly used but permanent magnets can be used as well. In a conductive substance a magnet is placed, and then the magnetic field yielded by the magnet turns another piece of equipment, which rotates the motor rapidly.
This magnet is capable of converting mechanical force into electric force Generators highly use this ability. In contemporary times, for power generating turbines electromagnets are more often used, but permanent magnets still play a part. Very simply, with sides like facing two permanent magnets are placed opposite one another. A turbine is rotated by their repelling forces, which then turns a piece of equipment known as an armature. Electricity is generated by this churning armature, which can then be transferred to other purposes.
The magnet has enough ability to affect ion beams. For aiming purposes cathode-ray tubes, a type of vacuum tube for focusing electrons, use permanent magnets. On the end of an electron gun’s yoke a ring of permanent magnets, alternating north and south poles is present, and to focus the beam for better reception or tighter focus, these ringed magnets can be rotated.
