3. Taxation Simulation • Tax time! • Colonists pay into taxes – taxes go into the cup in the middle of table. • Each time this symbol appears, a tax will be imposed. • Parliament selects the type of tax from a pile of cards. • The Tax Collector collects the tax collection cups at the end.

4. Welcome to the American Revolution! Summary of 5th Grade Unit: • This unit is designed to introduce and expand students’ learning about the American Revolution. Students will interpret and analyze various resources, will employ several intelligences and will activate most, if not all, levels of Bloom’s taxonomy to complete assessments and tasks that focus on significant historical figures and events (cause and effect) of the revolution. • The unit will be conducted during the second semester so that students will have had practice working in groups, using organizers, writing in various forms, and oral presentations. This will allow students to reference previous knowledge and skills necessary to complete their performance assessments and tasks.

A.R. – What caused people to leave Britain and settle in the colonies? • How does a conflict, revolution or war develop/occur? A.R. – What were the actions and reactions that caused the Road to Revolution and war? • What does freedom mean and why do people try to attain it? A.R. – Why did the Patriots decide to revolt against Britain? • Do people have different perspectives? If yes, explain. A.R. – What were different perspectives of historical figure involved in A.R.?
